Developing an Informed Curriculum
A Practical Look at Improving Outcomes & Transitions

This practical session will involve reflecting on what is really meant by ‘pedagogy’ and how this applies to Early Childhood Education. Sometimes we are too focussed on outcomes, that we miss out the detail of the journey to get there.

We will do this is stages, or layers. At each point we will look at the impact created, so that eventually we will see how the child is affected.

  • What comes first? Teaching or Learning
  • First layer – The Environment
  • Second layer – The Teacher
  • Third layer – The ‘curriculum’
  • Fourth layer – The ‘messages’
  • Centre – The Children

Formats will be provided to inform the thinking and enable participants to continue reflection after the event .

"Education must be based on research and reflection. Pedagogy must be underpinned by understanding of children and developmentally informed practice."
