About Me
Dr Sue Allingham BA (Hons) MA EdD

Trainer | Consultant | Author | Speaker | Writer
My passion for 'everything Early Years' especially teaching and learning began in the late 1980's with my classroom experience and senior lead role as Early Years Co-ordinator. I then moved into research, I gained an MA followed by a Doctorate, both in Early Years Education from Sheffield University.
These achievements enabled me to consolidate my thinking and practice and I realised the work that I was doing had a solid grounding in research. It is this research that forms the base for the articles I write regularly as the Consultant Editor of Early Years Educator (EYE) magazine, part of the Mark Allen Education Group.
I have also received commissions from Practical Preschool Publications to write two books, 'Transitions in the Early Years' (now in it's second edition) and Emotional Literacy in the Early Years, launched in early 2020.
I regularly write articles for Early Years organisations aside from my work with EYE and am often called upon to provide opinions on the latest developments within the Sector.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked regularly with various clients including Local Authorities, Schools and Early Years Provisions supporting them through coaching, mentoring, training and consultancy; I also attended national conferences and events, providing Keynotes and Workshops.
COVID changed how we needed to work and I responded by working online with my Clients, supporting them with their requirements. I also found myself presenting online and Conferences and Webinars, both within the UK and Internationally.
We can't deny that the world has changed now that we are out of the Pandemic, and I have realised we cam move away from traditional delivery methods which in turn has opened up the world to us all.
I have recently launched my Online Training Platform and am busy devising and recording my bespoke training courses Alongside this I offer a blended approach, where I can provide live introductions and reflective sessions enabling me to host conversations with Delegates to provide a more interactive experience including discussion and the opportunity to ask questions.
I work with all Early Years provisions and professionals, including Childminders, as a Consultant and Trainer ensuring that I am providing them with the up to date knowledge and skills they need in order to care for the children as well as care for each other.
Regardless of the method of delivery it is my aim that the services I provide will always work for my clients in regards to their needs, requirements and budgets.
All of my services start with a free of charge consultation phone call, so we can get to know each other and work out what you need and how I can help.

As the name suggests, I like to think 'out of the box' about pedagogy in the Early Years. My work around teaching and learning is always based on my wide research and the questions, 'What' 'Why' and 'How'?
My real passion is working directly with teachers, practitioners, managers, childminders and owners within settings and schools. In the past I have always made an initial free visit to familiarise myself with the team and the environment before working with them to plan the way forward. My consultancy is very interactive and in this way bespoke to each of my clients. I hope to get back to visiting soon, but as noted above, let's start with an initial phone call!

Online Services
The COVID-19 Pandemic has had a tremendous effect on the way we work and live not to mention the financial implications of the lockdown.
It is with this in mind that I have devised bespoke services that will enable me to continue to provide training and consultancy in a variety of ways - i.e. live and recorded online sessions that are designed to suit all needs, requirements and budgets.
The delivery and timing of these sessions can be decided on during an initial call (non-chargeable) so we can get to know each other and decide upon the plan that works best for you.
My Books
I have written two books for Practical Pre-School and invite you to find out more about them on my dedicated Books page.
